what they do

Under the guidance of artistic director Denise Vitali, the earthdancers work together to produce a benefit performance of modern dance every year.  Their goal is to attract audiences to their performances, so that they can raise as much money as possible from ticket sales.  Through fundraising in the community, the group covers the cost of show production and is able to donate every penny they raise at their performances to environmental causes.

Every year, the dancers commit to rehearsals, community involvement, fundraising and being part of the production of the show itself.  From media relations to sponsor support, from dance-a-thons to bake sales, from raising environmental awareness to the city's Adopt-a-road program... the group works tirelessly from September to April to prepare for performances.

After all the hard work is done, the moment finally arrives when the dancers have achieved their goal once again... and at their final evening performance they present cheques for the full amount of their ticket sales to their beneficiaries.

Over the years, earthdancers has been proud to support the following organizations:

  • Friends of the Earth (Canada)

  • VETAC (the Vegetation Enhancement Technical Advisory Committee of Sudbury)

  • the Junction Creek Stewardship Committee

  • the Trans-Canada Trail

  • Roots and Shoots

  • the World Wildlife Fund

  • Light Up the World

  • Wild at Heart

  • the Earth Day Committee of Sudbury

  • Friends of the Roxborough Greenbelt

They have had the privilege of working alongside many in the community, across the country and around the world who are working together to 'save tomorrow'.

"earthdancers' annual gala is not to be missed. These young dancers are creative, impressive and absolutely entertaining! They devote their passion for dance to raise money for the natural world. They are a must see!”
