who they are
earthdancers is a not-for-profit contemporary dance organization run by students under the guidance of artistic director Denise Vitali. For over 34 years, earthdancers has promoted environmental awareness and has raised funds through their annual benefit performances. These funds are used to support various environmental organizations. Since their formation in 1989, earthdancers has donated over $241 000 to their beneficiaries. 2023 marked their 30th annual benefit performance!
IT ALL STARTED IN 1989...
earthdancers was founded in 1989 by Sunny Horvath, Heidi Strauss, and Stephanie Thompson. They conceived the idea of holding a benefit performance of modern dance and donating all the proceeds to organizations dedicated to improving the environment. The first benefit performance was held in 1990 and raised $5 000. Since then, the passion and mandate of the group have been continued by student dancers year after year. Passing the torch in their love of dance and concern for our world, several generations of youth have offered their time, their talent, their heart, and their dedication to continuing the work of earthdancers.
